Adulting is hard. Trauma sucks. And everything is way too serious.
The Creativity Playground is your permission slip to do something just for fun. I’ll kick us off! Here’s my creative expression for the month:
I stopped setting New Year’s resolutions years ago because I was too competitive with myself. It ended up just being a list of shortcomings and failures. Yuck.
I do like the idea of reflecting and setting intentions, though. Sometimes I’ll create a vision board. Sometimes I’ll do a past-present-future tarot spread. Sometimes I’ll just journal about my thoughts and feelings. This year, I added a little sweetness into the mix and wrote a poem of all things I wished for myself.
I hope this inspires you to do something loving and non-traditional when it comes to New Year’s resolutions and that you treat yourself with kindness as we enter 2022. There are endless ways to goal-set without dipping into massive self-criticism, overly positive thinking, or *gag* forced gratitude. More sweetness plzzz!
15 Wishes for Myself
I wish to be proud of the person I’m becoming.
I wish to remember to breathe when I’m feeling overwhelmed.
I wish to be less available. No phone after 9pm. No social media on Sundays. No feeling guilty about not responding back immediately.
I wish to speak up when something bothers me.
I wish to assert myself on the sidewalk.
I wish to feel deserving of having needs and wants and preferences.
I wish to allow myself not to like someone. Gasp!
I wish to trust that THERE. IS. ENOUGH. TIME.
I wish to accept that I will never be the kind of person who puts my clothes away at night.
I wish to nourish my body with yummy foods that I enjoy.
I wish to be extra loving to myself when I feel sad or lonely or stupid. Especially stupid.
I wish to spend my energy on people who want to hear what I have to say, not on those who interrogate my existence.
I wish to learn how to pronounce my grandparents’ Chinese names.
I wish to buy myself flowers every now and then to remember that the world won’t collapse if I indulge in something frivolous.
I wish to seek out more moments of silence, if only, so I can hear my own voice.
