Happy Spring my loves! 🍓🌼
I celebrated my 36th birthday eclipse chasing and marveling at how incredible and beautiful and mysterious and magical the planet is. I’ve seen totality twice in my life and both times I cried lol. I’m not sure why it’s so moving. It just defies everything you think you know about how the world works. It gets dark and windy and cold and the crickets come out and the animals stop making sounds and you can see stars and it’s the weirdest wildest thing for four fleeting minutes. And then it’s over and you’re like WAS THIS A DREAM?!
Excerpt from Guidebook: The Nine of Wands is all about the healthy and necessary role of anger. Anger is how we know when boundaries have been crossed. Anger is why we change sh*t that isn’t working. Anger is what propels us to fight for what we believe in. Anger is passion. Many of us were taught to suppress our anger, though, because society is uncomfortable with angry women. Here, we see a woman who is standing in her power as a protector, a change maker, an artist, an activist. Let her be a reminder of all the good that can come when you say: “Enough is enough.” And remember, every time you stand up for yourself, you are healing the wound for all of the women in your lineage who were silenced.
INSPO: This card is inspired by Sandra Oh when she got on the megaphone and said “It’s an honor just to be Asian!” I knew I wanted to make a card about anger because I feel like anger is such a hush-hush topic for women, especially Asian women. It felt important to normalize that we ALL get angry and that it is actually a vital form of self-expression.
MY HOT TAKE: I’ve been dealing with a lot of anger lately. It’s bubbled up in a way that makes it physically uncomfortable to be in my body. I’ve tried screaming, boxing, crying, walking, deep breathing, acupuncture, and somatic therapy. Nothing seems to make it go away. But maybe that’s the point. Maybe the lesson right now is to stop judging my emotions, to stop making some “good” and some “bad,” and to just accept where I’m at.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Reflect on your own relationship to anger. What clues do you get from your body when you’re angry? What do you think your anger is trying to tell you?
I got to do the coolest most scary thing! My first ever book signing! 🥹 It was such a joy to spend time at On Waverly (if you’re ever in SF, you gotta check them out!) to share some BTS stories about creating The Adventure Tarot and hang out with the community IRL. Click here to see how the event turned out! Where should I go next?!
If you’ve been feeling called to have an Adventure Tarot deck of your own, you can grab a copy via your preferred bookstore on my site right here!
