Welp, summer has nearly come and gone before I had a chance to write to you! MY BAD š„“
The truth is Iāve been going through IVF and other fertility treatments so my days have been filled with doc appointments and unknowns and heartache. I’ve experienced a lot of brain fog that’s really impacted my creativity and in turn, my spirit. On top of it all (plus COVID!), I was up against a big deadline for a new manuscript so I had to channel whatever morsels I was able to extract from my brain into that project. It was the first time I had to create something when I wasnātĀ ~in flow~Ā which was terrifying. BUT! Even though I thought there was no way in hell I would be able to do it, somehow I did! (And I canāt wait to tell you about it SO SOON!)
Excerpt from Guidebook:Ā If you canāt laugh, youāll cry. The Acrobat comes cartwheeling into your sphere with a little bit of levity.Ā We cannot take the journey too seriously; otherwise it will, a thousand percent, crush usā¦The Acrobat is an amazing observer and helps us identify where in our life we could stand to be more flexible. With her energy, we have greater mental agility,Ā seeing beyond black-and-white thinking, staying open to lifeās endless possibilities. This is the card to turn to when you need a love nudge that youāre exactly where youāre meant to be.Ā You are not behind. You are not too late. Life is unfolding in perfect timing.
INSPO:Ā The Acrobat is my version ofĀ The Hanged Man. Itās the only card in the Major Arcana that I changed the name of because I hated the idea of having aĀ hanged manĀ in my deck. Some things are due for an update if ya know what I mean š Iāve kept the essence of the card ā a change in perspective ā but made it lighter and cuter!
MY HOT TAKE:Ā I cried more than once about how I would possibly finish my manuscript on time this summer. How would I ever come up with interesting things to say or have the energy to get words down on the page? How would I balance what was going on in my personal life with my work demands? How would I write anything better thanĀ The Adventure Tarot??? I would drag myself out of bed and go straight to the computer where I would sit and dwell and spiral for hours. Then, one morning, I remembered to practice what I preach and usedĀ The Adventure TarotĀ (a tool for this very purpose!). I drew a card: The Acrobat. I laughed because it was so perfect.Ā The reminder that everything would be fine, that this manuscript really wasnāt that big of a deal, that I donāt have to write the next most amazing literary work, that the whole point of this project was to have fun!
The same can be true for you! Whatās feeling sooooo hard right now that you could take a little less seriously?Ā
FOOD FOR THOUGHT:Ā Summer is the perfect season to practice having more fun, letting loose, and not taking things so seriously. What if youā¦gasp…tried out a new hobby that you totally suck at? Watched some stand-up comedy? Let yourself lie on the couch and do absolutely nothing?!
Maybe try this: reflect on an area of your life that feels hard and difficult and see what happens if you bring a more playful spirit to it. What would that look like?Ā
A pinch me moment! I got to give a talk atĀ The Washington PostĀ last month! Can you believe it?!! It was a fireside chat about finding balance, overcoming burnout, and self-discovery for AWIN (Advancing Women+ Inclusion Network) and Lotus (Pan-Asian Inclusion Network) along with a community tarot reading. Merging my old corporate world with my new spiritual world felt so surreal and so rewarding.Ā
Iām still on a high and will be making more time for speaking engagements like this āwoohoo! So if youāre interested in bringing me to your company or campus, hit reply or send us a noteĀ here.
Wishing you all a fun-filled rest of your summer!
P.S. I was recently a guest on two podcasts! The first was Nomads at the Intersections with the incredible and inspiring Noami Grevemberg whose work centers around diversifying #vanlife.Ā Listen hereĀ for some juicy BTS stories about creating The Adventure Tarot and my research on perfectionism.Ā
The second was Psyche Magic with Jordan Hale, LMFT, an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist who loves all things dreams and shadow work.Ā Listen hereĀ for a fun-filled convo about intersectionality, representation in the spiritual space, and inner teen healing.Ā
