Welcome to the world of oracle cards! This might be your very first introduction, or maybe you’ve been working with them for years; either way, I’m so glad you’re here and curious enough to explore a little deeper. 💜
Let’s start with the basics. Think of oracle cards as a way to start a conversation with yourself. Most days, we move through life on autopilot. We feel things, react to them, and keep going without ever really checking in and reflecting. Oracle cards create a pause in that cycle. A small, intentional moment where you pull a card and ask, “Okay… what’s going on with me right now?” They can be a simple daily ritual, but they’re also a powerful way to reconnect with your inner world.
You’ve probably noticed trends across social media lately, like “stop-scrolling bags” or people committing to their own “analog year.” It’s evident that so many of us are craving deeper connection, with ourselves and with each other. I think we’re ALL feeling called to put the phone down and return to the present moment. Oracle cards for self-reflection support that longing so beautifully!
Just like my approach to tarot, I don’t believe you need to be an expert to use oracle cards. In fact, that’s the whole point. They’re meant to be intuitive, playful, and free-flowing. There are no strict rules, no pressure, and no right or wrong way to do it, just an open invitation to look inward. Simply grab your deck and go! 💖
Oracle cards are very open-ended. There’s no single tradition you need to study or memorize. Each deck is its own little universe, typically created around a theme, intention, or way of seeing the world. Some decks focus on emotions, others on spirituality, creativity, self-reflection, or everyday guidance.
Historically, oracle cards grew out of humanity’s long-standing desire to seek meaning, reflection, and guidance. Long before modern decks existed, people used symbols, images, and messages through charms, runes, and other divinatory tools to pause and listen inward. Oracle cards, as we know them today, began appearing more widely in the 20th century as artists, writers, and spiritual teachers started creating decks outside the traditional tarot structure. This allowed for more personal expression and made the practice feel less rigid and more intuitive.
When you pull an oracle card, the process is simple: read the message and notice what it stirs within you. Does it feel comforting? Irritating? Uncomfortably accurate? That response is the real information. The card is giving language to your thoughts, feelings, or patterns that were already quietly present within you.
Oracle cards don’t tell you what to do, and they don’t predict the future. Instead, they help you hear yourself more clearly. They act as mirrors rather than rulebooks.

You don’t necessarily need candles, incense, or a perfectly curated altar unless that genuinely brings you joy. If your “sacred space” is your couch, bed, car, or desk during a break… that counts.

Then ask yourself a simple question. Nothing deep or dramatic required:
Shuffle your deck in whatever way feels natural to you. Neat shuffling, messy shuffling, spreading the cards out on the floor, there’s no wrong method here. When it feels right, pull a card!
Read the card’s message slowly, then notice what catches your attention. You might gently ask yourself:
You can reflect in whatever way feels natural:
Oracle cards can be a simple yet meaningful way to build a daily ritual, one that takes only a few minutes but creates space to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.
You might use them in different ways on different days (and you can totally get creative with it!)
This practice is a small exercise of awareness and a gentle way to stay connected to yourself within the rhythm of everyday life. On days when you’re feeling your best, oracle cards can help sharpen focus and deepen clarity. On more difficult days, they can offer reassurance, perspective, and a sense of direction.Using Oracle Cards with Friends or a Partner
Oracle cards aren’t just for solo reflection; they can also be such a fun and meaningful way to connect with friends, a partner, or a small group! Someone even recently told me they used my oracle deck with their coworkers for an icebreaker. The cards can create a simple, low-pressure way to start conversations and share what’s on your mind.
You can take turns pulling a card and talking about what it brings up for you. If it’s helpful, start with a question for each other or a topic you want to explore. Maybe the cards spark a feeling, a memory, or a thought about something happening in your life right now.
This kind of shared practice can help you understand each other better, open up conversations that might not happen otherwise, and make it easier to explore emotions or perspectives in a safe, relaxed way.
