Hello, bff! 🌟 Are you ready to learn more about how you can use tarot in your daily life? Remember that you don’t have to be an expert to use tarot in a way that will positively impact your self-discovery. Whether you’re just curious or already feeling the magic, tarot is that spiritual guide that’s always there to help you navigate uncertainties (and it’s WAY more fun when you have a best friend or partner by your side). You can also use tarot to simply add some reassuring energy to your every day routine. So grab what I think is the best tarot deck for beginners (ok fine, I’m biased!) and let’s get into how you can use it to connect deeper with yourself and others.
Tarot may sound mysterious to you, but at its core, it’s a tool for reflection and guidance. Think of it like a cosmic GPS that helps you find your way when you’re feeling lost or just need a little nudge to see things from a new perspective. There is no right or wrong way to use tarot, and you do not have to be an expert to enjoy it.
A tarot deck with a guidebook is a great option for beginners. It can help you understand the meanings behind the cards while you develop your own intuitive connection. Each tarot card carries its own unique energy, symbolism, and story. You can use your own spiritual perspective as the true guide and let the cards speak to what is already on your heart and mind.
If you’re new to tarot, don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it may seem. Tarot is a fun tool that anyone can use, whether you’re seeking guidance on a specific question or just want to vibe out with your intuition. For beginners, you can start with the basics: get an easy to use tarot deck and familiarize yourself with the meanings of the cards. You don’t need to memorize everything at once, just focus on how the cards make you feel, and trust your instincts. Over time, and as you practice more, you’ll start to notice patterns and develop a personal connection with the deck.
The key is to approach tarot with an open mind and a playful heart. Remember, it’s a journey of self-discovery, not perfection! I do not consider myself an expert tarot reader, but I still find joy in using the cards to navigate my feelings, decisions, and self-reflection. Start small with simple spreads and don’t be afraid to explore new spreads or ask your cards big (or small) questions. The more you practice, the more you’ll feel like you’re chatting with an old friend. The Adventure Tarot deck is not meant to make you feel like you’re sitting in a lecture, but rather that you have your own roadmap of self discovery and belonging. Now, if you’re thinking, “Okay, but how do I actually use this to read for myself and others?” Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
Before you pull out your cards, you’ll want to get clear on your intention for the reading. Your intention could be anything that you’re looking to feel or clarity on a specific decision. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be, and it’s important that you remind yourself there is no wrong intention in tarot. Your question and focus can set the tone for the entire reading. Here are a few examples of intentions you can set, or questions that you could ask.
If you are doing a reading with someone else, you can take turns asking questions or doing a “general energy check-in.” The beauty of tarot is that you don’t need to worry about being super specific. The cards have a way of helping you discover new messages, even when you’re just trying to see what’s going on in your life. They can also help you ground and reinstate your path to further self-discovery.
Shuffling the cards is a fun and intuitive part of the process. Hold the deck in your hands, close your eyes, and think about your question or intention (or just vibe out with your bestie and chat about life). You can shuffle however feels right to you or even spread the cards out and mix them around. There are no rules or set way to accomplish this! The goal is to get the energy flowing and connect with the deck and yourself. And hey, if your bestie or partner wants to shuffle for you, that’s totally fine too. Some people feel like the energy transfers better when someone else does it for them. The Adventure Tarot is all about fun, not stress, and you can do whatever feels right to you.
Once you’ve shuffled (usually until you feel ready), it’s time to pull the cards.
I’m all about those one-card pulls. I love how quick and easy they are! Use a one-card spread to set an intention for the week or month, reflect on an introspective question, or even wrap up a client session or team meeting. You can also keep it loosey-goosey and ask the ancestors for clarity.
Two-card spreads are fantastic when you’re at a crossroads and need to make a decision. They give you a clear picture of both paths, and you may be surprised to find that the cards help you confirm what you already know deep down. Sometimes, they simply reflect how you’re really feeling about a choice, making it easier to move forward with confidence.
If you’re dealing with endings, beginnings, or bigger life events, a three-card spread is a great option. Here’s how it works:
Pull each card one at a time and pay attention to any feelings or thoughts that arise. Does a certain image stand out? Is there a sensation in your body trying to get your attention? Trust your intuition and let it guide you to the message you’re meant to receive.
Have fun with it, and let yourself be free to explore.
Now comes the fun part, interpreting the cards! You don’t have to be an expert to start reading; you can always look up the meanings of the cards in your Adventure Tarot’s guidebook. But here’s the thing: the cards are personal. Sometimes a card might mean something different based on your own life experiences, so take note of your feelings. You may even want to take actual notes and jot down a few things that come to mind as you’re interpreting the card.
It’s also super fun to interpret cards together with your besties or partner. You can each share your own take on the meaning, and see how it resonates with both of you. I created this deck with the intention that, even when you’re giving yourself a reading, it feels like you’re in a cozy, laid-back environment, almost like you’re at a girls night with your friends.
In The Adventure Tarot, each card includes an “Essence” and a “Releasing” emotion or phrase, offering simple guidance if you’re feeling overwhelmed. The card meanings are easy to understand, relatable, and feel like a chat with your best friend or a personal journal entry.
My goal with this deck was to make it as intuitive as possible, so you can focus on the symbolism instead of flipping through tons of pages. Each Minor Arcana suit has its own color palette and landscape that ties to its element, while the Major Arcana carries its own distinct energy. Nature imagery runs throughout, helping evoke emotions and connect to universal wisdom about living in harmony with our world.
I’m not a fan of the traditional gendered court cards *cough patriarchy cough*, so we gave them a modern twist. We also replaced the Hanged Man with the Acrobat, for a lighter, more playful vibe. Tarot, to me, should be empowering, not guilt-ridden, so the cards are rooted in compassion. And without reversals, this deck is stress-free and perfect for beginners.
After you’ve pulled and interpreted the cards, it’s time to take a moment and reflect. What messages do you think the universe is sending your way? What insights popped up? Sometimes, you’ll be totally shocked at how perfectly the reading aligns with your life, and other times, the cards might leave you with more questions (hello, mystery!). Either way, it’s all about using those messages to spark a deeper convo, especially if you’re reading with someone you trust. You can share your thoughts, ask follow-up questions, or pull more cards if you’re feeling extra curious. And if you’re using my tarot deck for beginners, you’ve got the added bonus of a guidebook to help you understand the meanings while you tap into your own thoughts. Your tarot practice is all about you. Always go with what feels right and safe, and let the cards help you explore new adventures on your path ahead.
I love the experience this group of friends had while sharing the deck with each other:
At the end of the day, tarot is all about having fun and learning to trust your intuition. Think of it as your trusty map on this adventure, guiding you to new discoveries about yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. You can use it as a tool to tap into a deeper connection with yourself, your partner, or closest friends. I created this deck to celebrate Asian joy, honor our heritage, and foster a sense of belonging.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to start the journey! Grab your deck, shuffle those cards, and see what magic you can uncover along the way. Tarot isn’t about getting everything “perfect”, it’s about the exploration, the learning, and letting your intuition be the co-pilot.
Grab your favorite comfort beverage, kick back, and enjoy the ride. Whether you’re road-tripping solo or sharing the experience with others, the path ahead is full of unexpected twists and turns that will help you grow along the way. 🚗
