Word of the Week: Self-love
Life Lesson:
When I look back at 2019, I am struck by the theme of releasing and letting go. Lots of shedding, grieving, and periods spent going inward. While wildly uncomfortable at times, I discovered how freeing it can be when you stop relying on external forces to make you happy. It felt like taking my self-love practice to the next level.
Loving myself enough to say goodbye
Loving myself enough to choose what feels right, not convenient
Loving myself enough to receive a compliment without giving one in return
Loving myself enough to put my needs before others
Loving myself enough to share my truth at the risk of hurting someone else’s feelings
Loving myself enough to not respond to every email or text message
Loving myself enough to listen to my body
Loving myself enough to say no to anything that isn’t a HELL YES
Loving myself enough to forgive myself if I accidentally say yes anyways
Loving myself enough to nourish my mind, body, and spirit
Loving myself enough to say “that hurt my feelings”
Loving myself enough to change my mind
Loving myself enough to turn down business
Loving myself enough to ask for help
Loving myself enough to rest
Loving myself enough to embrace alone time
Loving myself enough to close door after door after door after door…
Radical self-love is so much more than bubble baths and positive affirmations. It’s knowing deep down inside that even when your heart is aching, people disappoint you, business opportunities fall through, relationships dissolve, and your ego doesn’t understand what the fuck is going on, you will be ok.
Because at the end of the day, you have yourself. And when you truly love yourself, that becomes enough.
