Tarot cards have been around for centuries, offering deep wisdom and guidance for many people. However, letâs take a moment to acknowledge: so many traditional tarot decks are stuck in the past and do not properly represent women in tarot. The court cards? Full of Kings, Queens, Knights, and Pages, basically all patriarchal figures telling you what to do in a semi-threatening way. The messages? Commonly rooted in making you feel small or not accepted if you donât fit a certain narrative that the deck is presenting. There are many decks out there that are rooted in outdated gender roles. Oftentimes, the cards and illustrations do not center women or themes of inclusion. This was one of the many reasons I felt inspired to create a deck designed and focused on women, with a heavy dose of empowerment, adventure, and all-around good energy. My goal was to ensure that the tarot card meanings represent women, diversity, and my Asian heritage, while also encouraging you to find your own spiritual path.
The Adventure Tarot deck isnât just another tarot deck: itâs a whole vibe, designed to help you step into your power without the patriarchal hierarchy getting in your way. These cards are here to help you navigate your personal growth through female archetypes who are easy to relate to. The themes of the cards are rooted in positivity and strength, vs oppression or negative messaging. Think of it as tarot for the girlies who are ready to take on life like the badass adventurers they are. In order to use The Adventure Tarot to its fullest, I want to walk you through the intentional changes that I made to the cards while creating them. I also want to show you how women shine through in this deck, and how you can relate to them on the ultimate adventure. đşď¸
Tarot has been around forever, but its characters and archetypes havenât always kept up with the times. The traditional imagery often leans on outdated and limiting views of women, which donât really capture the full range of strength, complexity, and growth that women experience today. For a lot of us, some tarot decks don’t feel relatable or empowering.
By introducing new female archetypes and refreshing some of the characters, weâre creating a much more inclusive and relevant experience. These updated cards are all about making women feel seen in ways that are real, fun, and uplifting. Instead of being boxed into old stereotypes, we now have archetypes that reflect who we really are, dynamic, multifaceted, and always evolving.
This shift is all about embracing a more expansive and vibrant view of femininity, one that encourages self-discovery, growth, and the confidence to stand tall in our own strength. Itâs about giving women the freedom to connect with the cards in a way that sparks empowerment and personal transformation. These updated tarot archetypes help us tap into our truest potential and make the journey feel more personal, exciting, and meaningful. Itâs time for a tarot deck that empowers women to be who they truly are, without the old limitations.
If youâve ever pulled the King of Cups or Queen of Swords and felt a little… meh about it, youâre not alone. Those old archetypes donât always feel relatable, especially when theyâre built on outdated gender roles and power dynamics. You may have had a tarot reading that left you feeling intimidated as opposed to empowered. Thatâs why I flipped the script on the court cards in The Adventure Tarot. Instead of rigid, âthis is how life should beâ figures, I brought in characters who are on the same level as you. This enables you to use tarot for personal growth, instead of as a way to instill societal norms that exclude and deny your power. These cards are made to be equals who can join you on your journey and to help you carve your own path.
Hereâs a breakdown of the updated tarot card meanings.
Instead of feeling like youâre being told what to do by some high-and-mighty figure, youâre getting guidance from people who are in the trenches with you. The cards are written and illustrated to be peers who understand the struggle, the growth, and the excitement that comes with living your truth. These positive tarot card meanings give you the opportunity to form your own conclusions and connect with your inner self on a deeper level. Tarot should make you feel good, inspired, and ready to take on the world. No doom and gloom in this deck, just positive shifts and chances for growth! Letâs revisit our earlier discussion about traditional tarot cards. There are cards such as The Hanged Man that feel truly uncomfortable and yucky to me. The imagery and meaning donât align with the vibe I wanted to create in this deck. I knew that we needed to change this card and make it more relatable and positive. Enter The Acrobat!
A reimagined card that is an adorable, lighthearted character with a fun, intuitive energy. She’s rocking her adventure with balance, grace, and a whole lot of strength. Itâs a much more comforting meaning and illustration. The Acrobat is showing you that sometimes, itâs not about being stuck, itâs about surrendering to the moment and finding freedom in the pause. â¨
These positive tarot adaptations are here to enhance your experience with the cards and give you more power to chart your own adventure. This deck further illustrates womenâs empowerment through tarot and provides you with personal growth and positivity in every read. In each card, weâre embracing a fresh perspective, one that nurtures, empowers, and helps you tap into your fullest potential.
When creating this deck, I made the conscious decision to switch out reversals with a releasing emotion. By removing the concept of reversals, I felt like this gave people more freedom to be less rigid and more intuitive during their readings. Itâs also just easier (because you donât have to memorize or get complicated with your reading!) Rather than getting bogged down by a cardâs potential to appear upside down or misinterpreted, each card now focuses on something youâre âReleasingâ and thatâs the extent of it.
This shift encourages a more open, free-flowing reading process that invites reflection without the weight of guilt or shame. It creates a gentler, more accessible experience, making it perfect for beginners or anyone seeking an easy to use tarot deck. The releasing moment gives you a chance to reflect, connect with your intuition, and let go of the things that may not be serving you. It makes the reading more simple and more in tune with the most important spiritual guide: yourself.
Another key aspect of this deck is the thoughtfully crafted imagery, colors, and elements that come together to create a truly immersive tarot experience. The cards are designed to be effortlessly intuitive, with vibrant color schemes and nature-inspired visuals that beautifully connect to the elements: earth, wind, fire, water, and spirit. These elements come alive through specific colors and landscapes, making it easier for you to tap into each cardâs unique energy. Whether you’re drawn to a fiery sunset, a calm forest, or a grand road trip adventure, the visuals help you connect on a deeper level while adding a touch of magic to every reading.
Over time, you’ll find yourself becoming more familiar with the cards, like they’re old friends you turn to for guidance. Compassion is infused into every piece of this deck and with the thoughtful colors and images, you can find a way to relate to each cardâs energy. Itâs like having a fun, colorful journey through nature every time you pull a card! (Just like the time I scaled the side of this mountain. Yes, that did happen!)
If tarot has ever felt intimidating or cryptic to you, I totally get it. Tarot can often be perceived about only predicting the future, but it’s also about reflection, guidance, and empowerment. The Adventure Tarot is designed to help you tap into your intuition and grow, no matter where you are on your spiritual path. Itâs all about embracing change and self-discovery, shedding outdated expectations, and stepping into your power.
These changes to the deck are here to help you reclaim feminine strength and celebrate the many sides of womanhood. Each card represents you, whether you’re the Scout starting a new adventure or the Guide helping others. Each female archetype encourages you to embrace your unique journey and recognize your ability to create your own path. Remember, tarot isnât about set answers, itâs a tool to help you unlock your own wisdom and navigate your journey with confidence. This deck is for your personal growth, and everything I share is just one perspective. Trust your intuition, take what resonates, and leave the rest. Your path, your power.
So, if youâve been feeling unsure about tarot or just want something that feels more uplifting, this deck is here for you. Itâs a tarot deck for women who are ready to take on the world, no fear, just adventure. Nowâs the time to step into your power and embark on the journey of a lifetime.
