“What should I get my bridesmaids?” is a question I hear often.
Even if you don’t have bridesmaids, there is a lot of pressure these days to “get” (=buy) something for the people who are important in your life. As if just existing and sharing a special bond isn’t enough!
I was feeling uninspired by this idea of what to “get” the leading ladies in my life. I didn’t want to spend money on something they didn’t really want or need. Aren’t we all taking Marie Kondo’s advice and spending our weekends tidying up the sh*t out of our apartments? I just didn’t feel like a shirt that said “Bride Tribe” would make the cut.
I was at a bit of a loss! Until I decided what I really wanted was for everyone to feel how much they mean to me and how grateful I am to have them in my life. Instead of wandering aimlessly around a mall, I spent the time writing heartfelt letters. It was an emotional experience all around. To reflect on these relationships, to put pen to paper on everything we’ve been through together, and to eventually watch these soul notes being read. It was so special to share that moment together. To witness these amazing ladies all feel valued and seen. For them to receive all the love and appreciation I have for them.
Now, this was the type of gift I could get behind. Personalized, affordable and from the heart. The type of gift you can’t find in any store.
Ask Yourself: How can I reimagine what constitutes as a gift for a friend?
