✨You all shared, and I listened!✨
I recently polled you (my Monday Vibes fam), and asked what you liked most about the newsletter. You answered, and I’m here to share more of the good stuff! So, in the spirit of never not growing, I’m changing up the format and you can expect some of my fave finds, life lessons, and best pick-me-ups. We’re going lighter and simpler because sheesh does the world feel heavy right now! 💖
First Things First
My friend sent this to me the other day and I was like, wow, PRETTY MUCH:
I’ve been getting really into Young Adult books lately (esp those Asian YA rom coms, cuteness central!) but eek do I feel insecure about it or what. As if YA is something only “non-serious” readers read. But, like, why must we be serious all the damn time?!
I want to be guaranteed a happy ending. I want to laugh. I want to see girls talk back to their parents and stand up for themselves and make mistakes and have their first kiss and fight with their friends and know that everything will be ok. I want to read FOR FUN. And I want to not feel “less than” because of it 🙈
Speaking of Shame
I can’t be the only one who feels guilty for watching TV, right?? When I worked in corporate, I surrounded myself with a lot of people who thought watching TV was stupid and lazy so then I decided watching TV was stupid and lazy even though deep down I ACTUALLY LOVE WATCHING TV. 🤦🏻♀️ It’s been a hard narrative to re-write!
So, naturally, when I binge-watched ALL OF SEASON 2 of Bridgerton on my birthday (ummm fuck yes to the female gaze!), I felt bad. I felt dumb and embarrassed for wasting my birthday watching a silly TV show when I should have been doing something more “productive.”
But then I had this “aha” moment! I started thinking…why do we assume it’s such a better use of our time to binge the news? Why are we so quick to judge the delight of watching two people fall in love? Why do we think self-help books and documentaries are so much more sophisticated than YA books and fun romance shows?
I mean, c’mon! It takes just as many craft skills and ingenuity to write something that sucks you into another world, that reminds you that goodness still exists, that makes you care about characters so much that you laugh and cry and feel a part of their life and get that empty feeling when it ends. This is what art is!! TV is art! YA books are art! There is ALWAYS value in art! 💫
Just HAD to Share!
LMAO this is the best #GRLPWR mashup video everrrrrrrrr. Soooo into it! 😍
Ok, gonna go back to doing whatever the F I want and calling it productive and sophisticated cause life’s too damn short to not enjoy it the way we want! Same goes to you friend, I hope you can enjoy something that truly brings you joy today and forget the haters! 💖
XO,
Elizabeth
